ARLINGTON, Texas – Not a day goes by that Cowboys defensive coordinator Rod Marinelli doesn’t preach, and drill, forcing turnovers. Six games into the season, they’re finally starting to pile up for Marinelli’s group. Two second-half takeaways – an interception by safety Jeff Heath and a fumble recovery by cornerback Jourdan Lewis – led to 10 Cowboys points in Sunday’s 40-7 blowout win over the Jacksonville Jaguars at AT&T Stadium. “A real team effort,” Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett said. “Everybody playing off each other and complementary football throughout.&rd...

ARLINGTON, TEXAS  On the same defensive line for going on five seasons with the Dallas Cowboys, Tyrone Crawford and DeMarcus Lawrence have a tight bond. Through two games, the Dallas defense has limited their opponents to 29 total points and only given up an average of 274 yards each game. That’s good for the fourth-best overall defense in the league.  In addition to that, the passing defense has significantly improved, which can largely be chalked up to new defensive backs coach Kris Richard. The secondary has allowed 366 passing yards over these two games, fifth-fewest in the NFL, and opposing quarterbacks are completing 71.4% of their passes for an average of 6.3 yards per attempt. That lines u...

Why DeMarcus Lawrence is set for a monster year

DeMarcus Lawrence broke out last season to the tune of 14.5 sacks, but it's worth remembering that 6.5 of them came in the first three games. There were a variety of reasons for this, but the most obvious is that after Lawrence destroyed the Arizona Cardinals in front of the nation on Monda...

DeMarcus Lawrence broke out last season to the tune of 14.5 sacks, but it's worth remembering that 6.5 of them came in the first three games. There were a variety of reasons for this, but the most obvious is that after Lawrence destroyed the Arizona Cardinals in front of the nation on Monday Night Football, teams wised up to his greatness. They could afford to double- and triple-team him knowing that the Cowboys had no other outside pass-rushers. Case-in-point: no non-Lawrence defensive end on the roster had even five sacks last season. Tyrone Crawford, Taco Charlton, Charles Tapper and Benson Mayowa com...
