Giovani Bernard says a good word to use for the offense trotted out by the Cincinnati Bengals in 2018 is simple: urgency.
So far the Bengals have said all the right things about the Bill Lazor-led offense. Lazor himself has said the approach is aggressive and wants to challenge Andy Dalton in new ways.
Bernard seemed to confirm this recently when talking with the media: “There’s a little bit more urgency, I know that was one of the words that’s kinda been going around… and that’s what we kinda need.”
He also said starting over on offense gives the rookie an advantage since everyone is learning the offense together.
It’s especially good news for a guy like John Ross, who missed OTAs this time last year and could use any and all extra time to catch up.
Other encouraging notes about the offense have included the notion Joe Mixon will act as the feature back. Another compares the pace of the attack to that of a Chip Kelly offense.
As Bernard says, aggression is key for the Bengals in 2018. The talent is there and so is the ability to keep defenses on their heels by pushing the pace and taking care of the football.
After two down seasons, urgency is indeed key.
