After being targeted at least 10 times in each of the first four games, Jarvis Landry hasn’t reached double figures in that statistical category since September.
But you’re not going to hear Landry complaining about it with the Dolphins in the midst of a four-game winning streak, and the big smile on his face Thursday was evidence he meant what he said.
“You have to understand that it's bigger than you sometimes,” Landry said. “When you want to be part of something great, when you want to play on great teams, it is bigger than you. Sometimes it takes you sacrificing you not catching 10 balls a game, not catching a touchdown, not having the opportunity to run the ball. At the same time, when you unselfishly do these things to make sure the team's success comes first, eventually you'll get yours.”
Landry used the word “special” to describe what’s going on with the Dolphins right now.
“I love what I do, so it's always a joy getting up in the morning, but if feels that much better when you have a streak going like we have and we're part of something special like this,” he said. “I haven't felt this feeling about a team I've played on in a long time. To have the guys next to me and competing at a high level and winning like we are, it's something that definitely picks you up out of bed in the morning.
“(What’s special is) just the camaraderie. Just the camaraderie, the chemistry. I've been on teams where you may win but the guys don't hang out with each other. Pointing fingers. This team is definitely a team that sticks together and we all have each other's back. And I think that has made us the team that we are.”
