Giving Back and Getting Ready

Giving Back and Getting Ready

It's almost unbelievable to think that I’m about to start my 6th season in the NFL. I couldn’t be more excited about this year. With the talent on our team, I can’t wait to get back and do my part in getting us to Super Bowl.

People might say that I’ve “made it” now that I’ve been able to have some consistent seasons. That may be true, but I’m not satisfied with just being here. I want more. I want to be a part of the first team to bring a Lombardi trophy back to Minnesota. But you can’t just want it, you gotta to work for it.

The best way to focus on a goal is to remember what got you there. That’s one of the reasons why I’m training back at my old high school, Onondega Central, with some of the players on the current team. I’m always trying to think of real and authentic ways of giving back. I think that being able to train alongside these guys and give them some tips goes a long way for them. When your high school has an enrollment around 400, the small town bonds are strong.

One of the reasons that I’ve gotten to where I am now is seeing other guys who have made it out of Central New York and into the league. My motivation is to show these kids that they can chase their dreams too. That’s why I keep inviting these kids to train with me so that I can make them feel the love. I want to help them get to where they want to go.

Without hard work, none of our goals this year are possible. I think in any professional sport, it is a lifelong commitment. There’s never really an offseason because you’re always doing something to improve. I’m working non-stop in the weight room, on the field, and off the field. My teammates are doing the same and we use that as motivation.

Coming one game short of the Super Bowl last year left a bad taste in my mouth. It made me realize how important winning is to me and that's part of the motivation I used this past off season. Every rep, every squat, every shuttle run. I remembered that feeling after the clock hit 0:00 in Philly and I can’t forget it. Now is our chance to start building the foundation of a Super Bowl champion and I got my teammates to help me pour the concrete. Let’s do it!
