It has been fun getting used to a new offense and a new set of wide receivers here in San Francisco. We’ve got a talented and fast group of guys in our wide receiver room. A lot of these guys are young but they are working hard on getting better. We’ve all been working on our routes and paying lots of attention to how we get in and out of our breaks. Attention to detail is key.
We have to pay a lot of attention to blocking too. In our outside zone scheme there is an expectation for the WRs to take on their man in blocking. This way we can help open up the run game and it also gives us a chance to get physical with the opposing DBs.
Our young receivers have really impressed me over the past couple of months. Marquise is a guy who works incredibly hard on the practice field and in the film room. Aldrick is a guy who seems like he was made for our system and he can really grow up in our offense. Trent is very good and very quick. It seems like he was just made for the slot. This is a young group who is hungry and ready to make their make in this league.
The deep ball is going to be a key part of our offense. It is a great weapon that we can both use to open up the run game and to play off the run by taking deep shots off of play action. People might talk about how we aren’t a big group of receivers but we are going to use our speed and quickness to our advantage once we hit the field.
