This is one of my favorite times of the year. Like most people, I enjoy the holiday season. But I also look forward to and really love hosting my annual charity golf event in the Dominican Republic every year. This year, we are back at the Casa de Campo Resort in La Romana, DR.
Not only does it give me a chance to get back to the Dominican Republic. But it also gives me the opportunity to help kids that are in serious need of help. Throughout my career, I always enjoyed giving back—and I still do.
My charity, the David Ortiz Children’s Fund, raises money to help children in need of life-saving heart surgery in the Dominican Republic and in the New England area. To fulfill this mission, we have partnered up with the CEDIMAT Hospital in Santo Domingo and the Massachusetts General Hospital for Children.
This golf event is our biggest fundraiser of the year. Every year, I get a lot of other celebrities to come to take part and help make it a lot of fun for everyone involved. In the years that I have been holding this event, we have succeeded in raising a lot of money-- millions of dollars.
Thanks to the generosity of the donors and our sponsors, we have been able to help over 750 kids get a surgery they had to have.
For those that made the trip—I thank you from the bottom of my heart. You can follow the David Ortiz Children’s Fund Facebook page and hashtag #ortizclassic for updates all weekend.
