When the calendar turns to August the only thing on my mind is football. After a long off season it is always good to get back on the field with my teammates and start the building process. In this league there is always turnover so getting on the same page quickly is key to a fast start.
This year we have a new offensive coordinator with Coach Norv Turner joining the team. Coach Turner— he's a perfectionist. He knows what he wants, and he's not afraid to tell you what's on his mind. That's good for us. My cousin, Antonio Gates, told me that was going to come. We’ve talked a lot about longevity in the NFL and what it was like playing for Coach Turner. He just said to be the same guy, take everything in and play as long as I can. I've kind of got the same mentality as him-- chasing greatness, trying to be the best me.
The offseason went by fast. Seems to go by faster and faster each year. I got my body back together with Mr. Peter Marciante. I did intense rehab down in Miami and just made sure I'm in tip-top shape. Did a lot of beach workouts down there with Mohamed Sanu and some other guys, just trying to perfect myself.
With the dynamic group of receivers we have, I think great things are in store for us this season. We’ve got guys on this team that can do a lot of different things so we can attack the defense in multiple ways. It’s going to be fun seeing what Coach Turner draws up each week for our offense.
So far, we are having a lot of fun. Everybody’s gelling and getting along; we’re just out there trying to become better players. Training camp is for working with your teammates and getting back on the same page. The offseason is for recovery but now it is time to work.
