Every player’s story is different; everyone took their own path to the NFL. No one’s journey is going to be exactly like anyone else’s. Some were easier than others. But there is at least one element that is common in everyone’s story.
We all had some help during our journey.
We make it here because of the hard work we put in and our own God-given talent, but we all needed someone to believe in us along the way. We all needed someone to teach us about the game and how to become better football players. We needed someone to care about us, keep us focused, and maybe even keep us out of trouble.
For me, there were a lot of people that helped me out along the way, and I haven’t forgotten any of them. Since I have been one of the fortunate to make it to the NFL, I like to do what I can to give back to the community. I enjoy giving back to those who helped me get here and maybe make it easier for them to keep doing the good work they do.
That’s why I recently hooked up my old high school coach, Coach Kennedy, with some shoulder pads. He doesn’t coach at my high school anymore, but he had a lot to do with helping me become the player I am today. His team needed them, so I told him I’d hook him up.
I’ll never forget him, and I’ll always be grateful for everything he did for me back in the day.
I may not live in Wisconsin anymore, but I remember where I came from and who got me here. If I can help Coach help another young athlete pursue his dreams by donating some shoulder pads, I am more than happy to do it.
