It’s to be expected on the first day of minicamp, but everyone looked a little rusty, myself included. A couple dropped balls showed that we aren’t where we want to be yet, but as time goes on, we’re definitely heading in the right direction. There is a high-energy vibe at practice, and it's contagious. It just feels great to be back to football. As soon as these team-organized drills start, guys really fly around and have fun.
We added a couple run-blocking studs this offseason, Mike Pouncey and Virgil Green. In OTAs you don't really get the looks you want, and you can’t get a good feel for the new guys until the pads come on. So unfortunately, we’ll have to wait for training camp to see what Mike and Virgil can really do. But I’m very excited to see how they will help our offense.
I’ve been spending some time with the rookie running backs after practice. I’ll lend advice to them about being good teammates, and being professionals off the field. If we want success at the end of the year, we all have to put in that extra work. We have a very talented group of running backs. For instance Justin Jackson is a great runner, and coming from the Big10, I know a runner when I see one.
We are preparing for a great year and we have all of the pieces in place. It’s time to put in the work and see where it takes us later this year.
