It’s never easy when you have to look for a new team. I’ve done it few times, so I know what that’s like. Are you a good fit for them? Are they a good fit for you? Can you bring something to this team and do they need what you can bring?
There are so many questions and variables involved when it comes to joining a new team. But for me, there were no questions in my mind when it came to joining the Detroit Lions. Why? Because I have a pretty good idea of the direction, Matt Patricia is going to take that team.
It's a lot more comforting, and it’s a lot less pressure on you when you’re signing somewhere to a team that has a coach that has the relationship that me and Matty P have. Obviously, when I got the call and stuff, I was excited just for the simple fact that it was Matty.
Just the opportunity to be able to play with him in that organization and know that I know what kind of structure and what kind of things he’s going to bring to the table. So, I was just excited to play for him and excited to be a part of this organization. This is a top-tier organization, and this is somewhere I’d enjoy being.
But, of course, I didn’t come here just because I needed somewhere to go. I came here to win. I was fortunate enough to be a part of the last two Super Bowl winners, and I’d love to make it three this season.
Yes, I have a lot of years and a lot of miles on me, but in me, the Lions are getting a good veteran running back. I am going to go out there and play as hard as he possibly can for the organization and for Matty P.
I’m not one that’s used to losing a lot of games, and Matty P isn’t one that’s used to losing a lot of games, so we want to go out there and everything we can do to possibly get us wins, we’re going to do it.
I’ve been asked how I’m going to feel about sharing the backfield with Ameer Abdullah, Theo Riddick, and possibly even a rookie. Honestly, I have no problem with it. I’ve been sharing the backfield with someone my entire career.
They are both good, young running backs. Maybe I can teach them something, and they can help keep me fresh.
At the end of the day, it is all about winning. Whether I’m helping the team by carrying the ball or by helping these young guys, I’m going to do whatever I can to help the Lions do what’s important.
Win football games.
