I know a lot of people got excited after that first drive of our second preseason game against the Rams. We’re definitely pleased with how that drive went and it was helpful that we got an extra week of practice because of the Hall of Fame game. We just have to remember that it is still early and it was only one drive but early success is something to build on and this time of year is all about building.
Our preseason schedule has taken a little getting used to this year. The schedule last year was pretty normal and most of our preseason games were on Thursday. This year we have gone from having games on Thursday to a Monday to a Saturday. We haven’t paid a lot of attention to it because we are in the flow of training camp. It has been nice to have so many games to play so that it would break up the grind of camp. Coach Harbaugh has done a great job of setting up our schedule in less than ideal conditions.
As a player you just have to become what your schedule is and go with it. I think we are doing a good job of handling that and adapting on the fly. At this point, we’re using the preseason games as an opportunity to gear up for the season but you also cannot discount the guys who are going out there and trying to make this football team.
At the end of the day we are all out here trying to make the team. It doesn’t matter if you are a starter or not, in this league you have to prove yourself every play.
