Raising A Big Family

Raising A Big Family

Coming from a big family (I’m the oldest of six; four brothers and a sister), I always knew that I wanted to have a big one of my own someday. Dana and I were high school sweethearts, so she knew my family well and knew what she was getting into when she said yes.

She deserves all the credit in the world for keeping it all together, too. I know it’s not easy on her when I’m away on road trips and stuff. That’s just part of being an NFL quarterback’s wife, man. That’s why you’ve got to get a strong one.

Being a parent-- it’s tough, but it’s a lot of fun too. You have to realize that they can’t wait until you get home. When they see me walk through that door, I hear a bunch of little feet spring toward the door. They’re trying to tackle me as soon as I walk through the door and for the next three hours. So, it’s a lot of fun. At the same time, it’s a lot of work. They have a ton of energy, so to get down on the floor and wrestle with them for three hours, it’s like, ‘Man, is it their bedtime yet?’

We are now a family of five. Thomas Kevin joined us on April 6 this year. There’s Stephen (5), Daniel (4), Francis (3), Evelyn (18 months).

Daniel was born right before our home opener back in 2013. It’s not how we planned it to happen, but it ended up being a really special day. I think my mother-in-law was very happy. My wife had her in there, and if I was there, it probably would have just been me and her. The fact that I wasn’t there gave her the chance to see her daughter have a baby and I think that was probably a pretty special moment too.

After we had Evelyn, we knew we wanted one more. But will we have anymore? That’s something I can’t answer right now. I can’t say we are done, but we don’t have plans for another at this time.
 We’ll see…
