A lot of people ask me when I knew I was going to be an NFL player and I tell them nine years old. It might sound crazy but that’s what I felt and that never changed.
I started playing football at age nine and instantly fell in love with the game. I started out as a wide receiver. It was always fun for me. Once I got to high school, I also started returning kicks and punts but it wasn’t until my senior year that I played corner. Obviously, that worked out for me.
Football has always been fun and even more so when you’re winning. In high school and college, I was lucky enough to be on winning teams. That made the experience much better because nobody wants to lose. Even in the NFL, I’ve been lucky enough to enjoy a lot of team success.
I wouldn’t be here without listening to a lot of different people on my journey. Some of the best advice I ever got was to work hard and be a professional. I know it sounds simple but that’s really all it took. It wasn’t just on the field though. I wanted to be professional in my character, integrity, work ethics and in leading my teammates.
Now that I sit here as sort of a veteran in the league, I can reflect. For any kids growing up that have NFL dreams, I just want to say to dream big and know that you can do anything you set your mind to. It’s not a cliché, that’s just real talk.
Now I have this great platform to share my story and help whoever I can help. Keep checking back for more stories and advice!
