After missing the Kentucky Derby due to a fever, Gronkowski the racehorse (image above from Equuis Photography) is back on the track training for the Belmont Stakes.
While the feisty young colt epitomizes Gronk in equine form, his odds to win the third part of the Triple Crown couldn’t be more perfect.
Yep, Gronkowski has been given 69-1 odds by Vegas bookies -- it’s almost like they knew (and cared) that it’s Big Rob’s favorite number!
To make it even more fitting, the 2018 Belmont Stakes takes place at Belmont Park in Elmont, New York, on June 9. That’s 6/9 if you shorten the date … a.k.a the Gronkowski Family’s favorite holiday.
Now we’re not saying you should gamble away your hard-earned cash – but if the stars were ever aligned for an upset the racing world, it seems that Gronkowski is the horse to do it.
Owned by Phoenix Thoroughbreds, with Gronk having his own personal stake, Gronkowski is currently being trained by Chad Brown in New York after previously being with Newmarket-based trainer Jeremy Noseda.
“This horse is a winner and I love a winner,” Gronk (the person) previously said about the plucky three-year-old thoroughbred.
“When I heard about the racehorse being named after me, I started watching and got really stoked when he started winning. He’s won his last three races and is now headed to the Derby. I’m all in: Welcome to the Gronk Family, Gronkowski the Horse!"

Clearly his namesake is a long shot, with Mike Smith and Justify being hot favorites to win the Belmont and clinch the Triple Crown … but who would ever have bet on a QB picked 199th in the NFL Draft to go on and win five Super Bowl rings?
